The Legal Department
The DocMagic legal department is comprised of one full time attorney, one compliance officer and three paralegals. Melanie A. Feliciano is licensed in multiple jurisdictions and have extensive experience in mortgage transactions, consumer lending, banking and real estate law. Led by Melanie A. Feliciano, the legal department is responsible for handling all legal matters involving DSI, from negotiating, drafting, reviewing/revising contracts with its vendors, handling the day-to-day legal affairs of the company, to ensuring that DSI's products are compliant with applicable law.
Melanie A. Feliciano, Esq.: Chief Legal Officer
Melanie joined DSI in October, 2004. Immediately prior to joining DSI, Melanie served as Senior Associate Attorney at the Los Angeles law firm of Swedelson & Gottlieb from 1999 to 2004 where she dealt with a variety of issues affecting homeowners associations. Melanie's work with homeowners associations involved, among many other matters, counseling boards of directors on compliance matters and their fiduciary duties to the association and its members. From 1994 to 1999, Melanie was Senior Associate Attorney at the Los Angeles law firm of Robert Smylie & Associates, where she counseled a diverse client base that included financial institutions and real estate developers with respect to, among other things, regulatory and compliance matters, REOs and real estate development issues. Melanie was also an attorney with the law firm of Fiore, Nordberg, Walker & Woolf-Willis in Irvine, California from 1992 to 1994, and the Los Angeles law firm of Walker, Wright, Tyler & Ward from 1991 to 1992. Melanie graduated from Southern Methodist University in Dallas, Texas in 1987 with a B.B.A in Accounting. She received her J.D. degree in 1990 from the Georgetown University Law Center in Washington, D.C. Melanie is a licensed attorney in California and is a member of the State Bar of California.
Laurie Spira: Chief Compliance Officer
Laurie joined DSI in December, 2010. Previously, Laurie served as interim Director of Mortgage Compliance for Kinecta Federal Credit Union, one of the nation's leading Credit Unions, with more than $3.5 billion in assets and over 220,000 member-owners across the country. While at Kinecta, Laurie was part of the team tasked with expanding Kinecta’s wholesale mortgage lending business into 17 new states. From 2003 to 2009, Laurie was Vice President, Senior Compliance Officer for ResMAE Mortgage Corporation, a wholesale mortgage lender licensed to lend, service, and collect debt in 46 states. While at ResMAE, Laurie was responsible for licensing, loan documents, policies and procedures, and implementation of systemic compliance audits that were necessary to support ResMAE’s growth from a startup company to a national lender and servicer. Prior to ResMAE, Laurie worked as Assistant Vice President and Project Manager for Washington Mutual, where she was responsible for managing the Implementation Department of the Home Loans and Insurance Services Group. She started her career in mortgage banking at Long Beach Mortgage Company, where she was Assistant Vice President, Policies and Procedures Manager from 1998 to 2001. From 1979 to 1984, Laurie worked for the Walt Disney Company. She holds a Bachelor’s Degree in English from California State University, Long Beach.
