FS 231 'Unable to Access Linear Hash Files' Opening DocMagic
SYMPTOMS When opening up DocMagic for Windows on a workstation, after
successfully
installing DocMagic onto a server, you get an error message
stating
"FS231:Unable to Access Linear Hash Files".
SOLUTION
This problem is caused by one or more of the following problems. First, if
your
shortcut was created using UNC Path(such as \\server\share\dsi\dmw)
instead of
a Drive letter(such as G:\Dsi\Dmw). The second problem is if your
sharename
that your drive letter is mapped to is longer than 12 characters.
For example if
your G:\ drive is mapped to \\server\shared programs\ it
should be renamed so
that "shared programs" is under 12 characters. If
necessary create a new share
to the same folder and map a new drive letter to
it. The new sharename should
be under 12 characters in
length.
COMMENTS The reason for this is DocMagic's limitations as a 16-bit
application.
The DocMagic directory, and all directories in it's path, cannot
be longer than
8 characters. For the same reason, the share name that you
mapped your
drive letter to, must be under 12 characters. You can check this
by looking
inside MyComputer. Look at the label for your mapped network
drive. It will
say something like: Apps on 'NTserver' (N:). In this example
"Apps" is the
sharename, "NTserver" is the server name, and "(N:)" is the
drive letter. If you
the number of characters in your share name is greater
than 12, than this is
what you will need to change. Contact you Network
Administrator to change this.
