Government Shutdown and the Impact to Mortgage Originations
As of midnight on October 1, 2025, the U.S. federal government “shut down” or more precisely, no longer had funding to continue non-essential operations. The federal government does play some critical roles related to mortgage lending. While most federal agencies have suspended operations, some, which provide services to support mortgage originations, remain open with very limited staff.
